I think I love all seasons equally. I lived for many years in Dubai and the thing I missed the most was the change of seasons. That rhythm. I smiled at your "lamp fairy" comment. My husband, who is Danish, is our lamp fairy and the in charge with the hygge. We don't even have overhead lights. For the nice part of the year we live in the country in Denmark and I identifie with so many things you mentioned. Now I wonder where all our pheasants went? I haven't heard or seen them much this year. I just purchased Wintering on Audible, excited to 'read' it. I love reading a physical book, but due to our nomadic lifestyle, Audible is so convenient. I love listening to books while going on walks. Thank for this beautiful piece, I'm learning to slow down and just be, and autumn is the perfect season for that.
I'm loving Autumn this year as well Claire and love the list you've got here. I love a blanket and hot chocolate combo and a good book. It's a long time since I've done Myers Briggs, but I think I might be the same!
I normally love autumn for all the reasons you’ve listed above, but this year I’ve struggled with the repetitive dark, dank days. Time to dig out Wintering, I bought it a while ago and have been saving it up. Maybe it’s time now...
Autumn is our invitation to rest, to seek comfort & to be guided by nature on how beautiful life can be when we let go. Its absolutely my favorite time of year. I love the slower mornings, the days when the sun is strong but the air has a crisp dankness to it & the evenings that allow us to get cosy in candle (or lamp) light. I share your love of the book Wintering. 🍁🍂🍄🌰🕯
Love your list, including the reminder to reread Wintering. I have to see if I bought it on my kindle or need to download it from my local library again.
I agree that autumn has a natural slowing down vibe, but here in suburban USA, it's become overshadowed by Halloween themed events. It has an over the top consumerist feeling for those who tap into it. It seems that people have to decorate their lawns and houses like they do for Christmas and take their kids to Halloween events every weekend in October.
I have to tune all that out and stick to savoring all these good things you have reminded me about. I would add these:
1. Just watching the leaves fall slowly on a calm day, or watching them dance on the wind.
2, The smell of leaves on the ground.
3. The deer grow that white fur in their ears along with their winter coats.
4. The busyness of squirrels caching acorns
5. Bringing out all my handknit hats and scarves and mittens.
6. The cat more often seeks a warm lap, forcing me to slow down and savor the day.
Great minds think alike as I posted a similar article about autumn on Monday 🍂🌰🐿️🍁 It takes a different stance, but has a similar underlying message.
I resonate with your article deeply, particularly as a fellow introvert! The hunkering down has begun and I’m in my absolute element too. Feel free to check out my page 🧡
Wow, Claire! It’s as if you’ve reached inside my head and written a post about how I feel about autumn. I absolutely loved reading this! Autumn is my favourite time of year, and as an introvert and HSP, it just feels like home 🥰
Love this. I too feel this way about autumn and winter. It's my time to hibernate and curl up with a good book or spend time on introspective journaling. I've recently started a memoir class and am attempting to craft one myself. This time of year is perfect for it!
Numbers 1,2, and 3 bring me sooooo much peace and comfort! I do love fall because the weather cools. Not a fan of hot summer days at all. I think Fall and winter are my two favs, both for the beauty of the outdoors and the coziness indoors.
Autumn is definitely my favourite season for the reasons you have listed! I also am an introvert and an INFJ and relish the opportunity to turn inward and hibernate. I would also add that I craft more at this time of year and I am loving my Halloween cross stitch at the moment! Thank you for a lovely article!

Yes to all of these 🫶 But especially the lamp fairy....that's me too.
Here for #10 hahaha

Making dinners that only use one pot, then eating it out of a dish. 🙌

Your words ease me beautifully into autumn, which is really just beginning here in Andalucia, Spain. 🧡🙏🍂

I couldn't agree more - Autumn is a welcome respitefor me. Hot days make me actually anxious! :-)

Bullet point one! So cozy- especially when it’s raining outside and the sound of rain with a cuppa and a book 📖
